What's a LettersFrom?

Our origin story.

One of our early publications

Early Beginnings

We’re a creative collective called Âmes Perdues, formed by Christian Zapata and Joseph Jerez. What you see above is one of our early works working together. At the time, we were just getting our start making money outside of the typical 9-5, and we focused our working on writing travel content. You see, we had just come off of a pivotal trip from Paris and we were convinced we could do more.

A Story to Tell

So we get back to our home town of Providence, Rhode Island and we’re looking for inspiration everywhere. We land on a tea shop so inconspicuous you’d think they’re just another house in the neighborhood. While we’re sitting at Tea in Sahara and discussing how we could grow the business, we both bring a notebook without telling each other. Without any planning ahead of time we both find out that we’ve been writing down our ideas, recording our individual stories.

You see the power of writing down your ideas is that in that moment, there’s not much else you can think about. Writing the idea reinforces your memory of said idea. Add the power of writing something down with doing it consistently, and you’ll find yourself with a repository of your best work. This is something we’ve been accustomed to doing for a couple years now. With each new piece of work, each new publication, we’ve written down what’s worked and remembered to stop doing what hasn’t worked.

I don’t get it. What’s LettersFrom?

Thinking of a name to represent a company is hard. Naming just one facet of an already established brand is another constraint we had to deal with on top of that. Which is why we’re proud to come up with LettersFrom by Âmes Perdues. The shorthand being one you may see on our X handle, APLettersFrom. With our reinforced learning of writing we’re now comfortable extending our talents to others. We’re interested in storytelling, more specifically we’re interested in helping others tell their stories by writing for their newsletters and blogs. We’re looking for later stage newsletters which have enough income to start hiring writers.
